About
I am based in Cape Town, South Africa, studying a degree in music composition at the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town, as well as working as a freelance composer and musician, whilst writing my own music.
I have played the piano from the age of six and the saxophone from when I was nine, and music has since been an integral aspect of my life.
I was almost exclusively taught in classical piano, its intricate and refined compositional structures instilling in me a keen interest in music theory, but I looked to the saxophone for the creative outlet that jazz music could offer.
Learning saxophone under Jeff Judge, a South African jazz icon, taught me the invaluable skills of improvising melodies and rhythms on the spot as well as performing live with an ensemble, all of which honed my skills on the stage as well as in my own writing.
This knowledge base established a great passion of mine: writing music. From the age of ten I was tinkering with music software, as well as writing short tunes and melodies at the piano.
Through my experimentation, I began to understand and appreciate what entails being a composer in the modern world, embracing a wide range of compositional styles by teaching myself skills such as how to program synthesizers or write for full orchestras. In 2020, I released my debut EP, Rift, as well as a standalone composition, Cinematica. I have since released my debut album, Surge, alongside numerous singles. I have written music for games (Snacky Tower on Steam), a sports documentary short film (Europa), many pitches for advertisements, as well as various competitions. In my free time, I play games, read books and eat pasta. |
